What is a Statement of Purpose (SOP) and how should I write it?
A Statement of Purpose is a personal essay explaining your motivation for studying in New Zealand. It should include academic background, career goals, why New Zealand, why this program, financial ability, and post-study plans. Keep it concise (500-800 words). Can I get credit transfer for my previous studies?
Yes. Types include Cross-Credit, Exemption, and Advanced Standing. Previous qualification must be from a recognized institution, courses must be relevant, and usually completed within the last 5-10 years. Credit transfer assessments typically take 2-4 weeks after you receive an offer.
What type of visa do I need to study in New Zealand?
International students need a Fee Paying Student Visa. Key requirements include valid passport, offer of place, proof of tuition fees, proof of living funds (NZ$20,000/yr), medical certificate, police clearance, health insurance, and evidence of Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) intent.
How much money do I need to show for my student visa?
You must demonstrate:
- Living Costs: NZ$20,000 per year (or NZ$17,000 for courses under 9 months)
- Tuition Fees: First year fees
- Travel Costs: Return airfare
Acceptable evidence: bank statements, fixed deposits, education loan letter, sponsorship letter, or scholarship award letter.
What is the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement?
Immigration NZ requires evidence you genuinely intend to study and return home after. Factors considered: ties to home country, course relevance, economic situation, immigration history, and post-study plans. Our counselors assist in preparing a strong GTE statement.
Can my family accompany me to New Zealand?
Partner/Spouse: Can apply for a Partner of a Student Work Visa if you're studying Level 7/8 (Green List) or Level 9/10 (Master's/PhD).
Dependent Children: Can accompany you if you have a Partner of a Student Work Visa or are studying a PhD/Master's degree.
Can my children attend school in New Zealand?
Yes. State Schools are free for dependent children (Years 1-13). You must be studying Master's/PhD or have a Partner of a Student Work Visa. Enrollment requires proof of address, visa status, and academic records from previous school.
What are the tuition fees for international students in New Zealand?

Can I use my overseas driver's license in New Zealand?

- Work to Residence: Work for an accredited employer for 2 years then apply
Do I need to pay tax on my income in New Zealand?
Yes. Apply for an IRD number as soon as you start working. Tax rates: up to NZ$14,000 = 10.5%; NZ$14,001-$48,000 = 17.5%; NZ$48,001-$70,000 = 30%. Most employees have PAYE deducted automatically — no return filing needed. Tax year ends March 31.
